The pharmacy at the Mall of Australia shopping centre opened on Christmas eve and is a key hub for the pharmacy network, as well as providing a vital outlet for people with medical issues.
The opening of the pharmacy on December 24 is part of Walmart’s push into the Victorian health market and it said it did not consider the Christmas Bonus to increase access to the pharmacy.
“We are open for all our customers,” Walmart spokeswoman Sarah Tynan said.
“They can come in and pick up prescriptions, get prescriptions, fill prescriptions and take care of their prescription and pay their taxes on their debit card.”
Ms Tynans spokeswoman said the pharmacy would only accept cash or credit cards.
“It is not accepting any cheques or checks,” she said.
The store also has a large pharmacy network and has more pharmacy visits than the next closest Walmart outlet in Victoria, which has just 1,100.
“People have access to a range of products, which are often more expensive,” Ms Tynam said.
